What else besides cavar is used?

Does anyone know if cavar is used in gardening situations? What verb is used for 'to dig'? I'm looking for a Mexican Spanish translation if possible.

I agree with robertico. In the context of gardening, I've never heard/used anything but "cavar".
Cuando cavo en el jardín utilizo una pala.

For gardening cavar is the only word I would use. Other synonyms like excavar are used for archeological situations...profundizar, hondear, penetrar, socavar are all used in different situations.
