What significance does the expression "a puñales" have?

I'm doing summer homework for AP Spanish and I was wondering if the expression "a puñales" had any significance beyond daggers. Like in English, the expression "to look daggers at someone" means that you give someone a dirty look, so is there something additional meaning? Thank you.

Quinton, I tried "puñales" to see if I could pull something up in the phrase book (also tried, "a puñales" ) and was told that there was no match. Is it necesarry to have the exact wording of the phrase int he book in order to access it? - Delores--Lindsey, Jun 27, 2010

I from Mexico and here in mexico "puñales" has many meanings it depends on the context, sometimes it is not a good word but (rude word) a lot of people here in Mexico usually use this word "puñales"=gay. so be carrefull when you will use this word. However "puñales" means, knife. I think that some people use some words in a bad way but in espanish some words have double mining
