I have read two different ways to say "each other", which is correct
uno a otro o
uno al otro?
These are example sentences
Se golpean el uno al otro.
Se ven uno a otro.

Don't be so sure. I would notice as they would have a different meaning.
I realize that it only matters in writing anyway, when speaking, no one is going to know whether you say a or al

its depent what you want to say.. some times you have to use "el" and some times you have to use "a"
Actually the problem is quite simple.
al is a contraction of a + el.
so in "el uno al otro" (really being el uno a el otro) it is the early el that indicates you must use al (a + el) to be in correspondence with it
else you would say "uno a otro" without el for both 'otro' words.
the translations (sort of) are in the line of one to another vs the one to the other. The the being the equivalent of el.
