I didn't expect to hear from you so soon
The closest that I can think of is "No esperaba saber de tí tan pronto" but I'm sure it is laughably wrong. Can anyone think of how you might say this? Gracias.

Jeezle I think that you have made a good effort and you may not be as far out as you think
I didn't expect to hear from you so soon
:= No esperaba recibir tus noticias tan pronto
**No pensaba recibir tus noticias tan pronto**
that is my best effort now I hope that it helps
I have checked with a book of mine called:2001 Spanish and English Idioms by Eugene Savaiano and Lynn W Winget (segunda edición)
and it gave me the expression to hear from = recibir noticias de... so I have adjusted my response accordingly so Hopefully it should be more accurate.
I don;t think oirte is right. I don't think you "hear" from someone in Spanish like you do in English. I think you "know" from them, but I could use a confirmation. Seems like there is less people around lately.
