what's the difference between universidad and universitat

For example, I find these two different names for the same university: Universidad Politecnica de Valencia Universitat Politecnica de Valencia

What's the significance of the difference between the "-dad" and "-tat" endings?

The second name is the translation written in Catalán (or maybe Valenciano which is a dialect of Catalán).
