I just started to learn spanish and I will probably figure this out eventually but, why is it that when I try to translate stuff I always get 2 or 3 different ways to say it?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

If you are describing the use of the translator tools, you will always receive two or three translations. For several reasons, these applications are not going to be accurate. They will sometimes come close, but there will always be mistakes unless you are translating a very simple sentence of just three or four words.

As far as translating word for word, that is not really possible either. English speaking people think one way and Spanish speaking people another. It will take time and practice, but eventually you will be able to adapt. smile

Just try not to be discouraged. I think most of us approach language thinking it should translate word for word. You will soon start to see the patterns. - Nicole-B, Jun 20, 2010

My best guess would be that you don't fully understand grammar rules yet. Once you do, you shouldn't have nearly as much trouble. However, every once in a while you'll likely read something where poor grammar is used. While the phrase or sentence might make sense to most native speakers, you'll struggle (understandably).

Thank you for the info. I have been using the translator tool. That's why I was getting confused. I'll just stick to the lessons for now. Maybe I'll figure it out one day. lol. - robe869, Jun 20, 2010
