Por qué no salimos caminando
I think Velma (Scooby Doo) is saying "Why don't we just walk"? But it seems like "Why don't we go out walking" or "Why don't we leave walking". What thoughts, friends?

Yeah but it doesn't make sense. They are swimming in a lake, and she says Por qué no salimos caminando. Like, why don't we go out walking. I don't get it.
Which Scooby Doo book is this from? -- Let me know I have several (they were great learning tools; and fun)
OK Scooby Doo of course has a lot of comedy and joking around between each other. It is probably Velma making a joke about just walking out (and not swimming)
I would translate "Por qué no salimos caminando" as (Why don't we walk out.) I know I took a lot of liberities with the literal translation.
"Salir" -to leave, exit, go out.
"Salir" is used to mean "to go out", as in "to exit" or as in "to date" or "to socialize". It also means just "to leave", as you noted in your question.
