I found this video quite interesting, clic here to watch.

Cuando fui niño se me inculcaron esas enfermas ideas y vivía con temor, el infierno me parecía tan real y daba tanto miedo... después de tantos años es algo difícil quitarse de encima toda esa carga de torturas mentales con las que uno fue educado. Gracias al pensamiento y al raciocinio ya no me torturo creyendo en esas horribles concepciones.

I found the video a little biased. It lumps all religions together. Not all religions espouse this concept of Hell/damnation and even those that do, vary in the concept of what Hell/Hades/Sheol/Pit actually is. That the concept is traumatizing to children, I have no doubt, but isn't that the point of it: avoidance in the reward/punishment method of teaching.

I equate this with the Bible's exhortation to "fear God". That expression has about as many meanings as there are readers of the Bible. To pick one context and rail against it isn't very meaningful.
