It says: "This portion of our website is still under construction. Please check back for more useful information at a later, yet to be determined date. Your patience is appreciated."

Ok, not really. It's the boilerplate, placeholder or filler that Microsoft uses in their website templates. It disappears as you enter whatever it is that you, or the person building the website, put on that particular page.

Instead of using a sample with real information, which can distract one from the task at hand, Lorem ipsum has been used for years. Equate to 'gobbledeguk'

Oh, oh, oh! So sorry I saw this so late! Just the first two lines would have been purrfect! :-) - Gekkosan, Jun 21, 2010
Tried that! It didn't seem to do it well enough! Jack caught it right away, though. - LateToDinner, Jun 22, 2010

Good catch on recognizing that it's a boilerplate, Name. It's actually used in a lot of printing and graphics arts industry. Once you mentioned that MS used it as a boilerplate, I remembered that. I hadn't recognized it at first. Here's a bit of info, plus a source.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. .... Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC.

Dear members,

I have uncovered my Latin dictionary from under a big pile of dust. This text has proper Latin words in it but also words that don't exist in Latin - at least not to my knowledge... but even those words resemble proper Latin words. Since I've spent years struggling to learn Latin to pass my written exams I believe I am right to say that this text doesn't make sense at all. It may originate from one of Cicero's texts but this particular text has no real content. Therefore, LateToDinner is right and this text is pure "gobbledegook", even someone who reads Latin like English couldn't makes any sense of it.

Saludos, Chica

Miguel, come back and clean this up! Oh, wait I didn't start this thread. That's okay. I still say Miguel come back and clean this up! - LateToDinner, Jun 19, 2010
What exactly are you talking about? - SydSyd225, Jun 19, 2010
SS225: if you mean Miguel, he is saying it isn't in Spanish; if you mean me, I was reminding Miguel that on this site one is supposed to use proper grammar and punctuation. - LateToDinner, Jun 20, 2010

"Lorem Ipsum" is a random compilation of latin words, used as fill text to test websites.

For some reason my school's website has a lot of their information in spanish. Which is a language that I do not speak.

You could though, if you wanted to. I just took an 8 week course that may as well be titled: Introduction to Beginning Spanish. It was a 3 unit course which meant $26 x 3, $72; required a book that was $100, but I bought a used one so I saved some, and a Notebook, a Cuaderno, that cost even more than that. Round it off at $300. And I had to be there on time, Monday and Wednesday nites.

On this site, for which you have already paid all of the fees (took the time to sign up!) all of what we covered in that class is presented. And presented at your convenience. Doing a lesson, reviewing a lesson, learning pronunciation and seeing other beginners' questions dissected, bisected, chopped and diced is all at your scheduling convenience!

The tools at your fingertips here beat the heck out of the cheapy '601 Verbs' I bought and haven't used (it's all here) and the flashcards I was going to buy would not have come with audio!

You are already here! Just for fun, click on Spanish Lessons and do lesson #1. If you don't like it, call me for a refund.

Good luck and Happy Learning!

This is not Spanish... According to the "detect language" option on GoogleTranslate, it is Latin. Unfortunately though, Google is not yet able to translate Latin.
