I have to write a paper for my Spanish class. The topic criteria is very broad. It can be about anything to do with any Spanish-speaking country or person born in such a country, past or present.
I'm thinking it would be interesting to do Pablo Picasso, but I'm guessing he's probably a popular subject for these essays and I'm wondering if those who know a lot about Spanish culture and history may be able to give me some interesting possibilities that are a bit more obscure.
One important thing is that I need to be able to find information in English fairly easily to ensure I have enough to work with for two full pages (I'm in my first Spanish course, so I can't read Spanish well enough to use Spanish sources yet). Other than that, the possibilities are wide open.
I appreciate any ideas you're willing to toss out. Thank you. ![]()

Hi there, LT23NC.
IDEA NO 1: This is a personal hobby-horse of mine but you might like to consider writing something about the Camino de Santiago. It's one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in the world, and definitely in Christendom. In times gone by, a pilgrim walked out through his door and kept on walking until he reached Santiago in Galicia in North-Eastern Spain. Nowadays, most pilgrims start in the Pyranees, either at St Jean-Pied-de-Port on the French side or at Roncesvalles on the Spanish side of the border. Those who finally made it to the Catedral de Santiago were awarded indulgences and, more laterly, a Compostela, or Certificate of Accomplishment. The Parador de los Reyes Católicos in Santiago has been receiving pilgrims since it was established as a pilgrim hostel by Isabella, one of many dignities who made the pilgrimage. St Francis of Assisi was another. There is plenty of information available online and I would be happy to help you. I have some 6,000 photographs of the Camino route, having walked it at the end of the year.
IDEA NO 2: Look at the history of the Knights Templar in Spain.
IDEA NO 3: Examine the history of some of the Spanish kingdoms - a vast choice here as land changed hands quite frequently. Castile and León might be a starting point.
IDEA NO 4: Consider the influence of the Moorish conquest on Spain, its language and culture. Or just look at the history of the conquest and reconquest - all fascinating stuff.
IDEA NO 5: There's always the food...you could very easily cover two pages just on "tapas" alone.
Hope this helps.
Pablo Escobar
Perhaps the most famous and important Columbian in history. Drug lord. Was richest man in the world. The guy practically ruled Columbia during the 1980's. At one point he killed every single candidate in the Presidential election. He ruled in Medellin and there he is still considered a hero. Went to prison but escaped. The Americans spent years trying to find him. They eventually got lucky and killed him
Very interesting subject.
My friend did a coursework on him before. Its unique, no one else will think of it or know much about it.
In my Spanish class I wrote about the Easter Island Heads found on the Easter Islands near Chile. It's a really fun and interesting subject that most are familiar with but don't know much about.
How chocolate was originated in South America is always fun. I mean who doesn't love chocolate? And the Myans are a pretty interesting subject, they didn't speak Spanish but Spanish settlers stubled on them... hope I was some help ![]()

Ask her a few questions about what you will need for your project.
All I know is:
She is from Spain.
