Write in alphabetical order starting with "A" all fall within religion (it may be religious stuffs, religious order, religious places, feeling, holiday..). If the word is specific - please, explain what it's mean (if it's possible).

Post your Spanish religious-word together with it's English translation.

And, if you want, find a picture and post that as well...

Serafín - Seraph, seraphim, angel

In the Christian angelic hierarchy, seraphim represent the highest rank of angels. Seraphim are beings of pure light and have direct communication with God. They resonate with the fire symbolically attached to both purification and love. The etymology of "seraphim" itself comes from the word saraph. Saraph in all its forms is used to connote a burning, fiery state. Seraphim, as classically depicted, can be identified by their having six wings radiating from the angel's face at the center.

Quietismo - Quietism (sect of mystics)

Español: Doctrina de algunos místicos heterodoxos según los cuales la suma perfección del hombre consiste en el anonadamiento de la voluntad para unirse con Dios, en la contemplación pasiva y en la indiferencia de cuanto pueda ocurrirle en tal estado.

English wikipedia: Quietism is a Christian philosophy that swept through France, Italy and Spain during the 17th century, but it had much earlier origins. The mystics known as Quietists insist, with more or less emphasis, on intellectual stillness and interior passivity as essential conditions of perfection. All have been officially proscribed as heresy in very explicit terms by the Roman Catholic Church.

Pacha Mama = Mother Earth

Pachamama is a goddess revered by the indigenous people of the Andes. Pachamama is usually translated as "Mother Earth" but a more literal translation would be "Mother world" (in Aymara and Quechua mama = mother / pacha = world or land; and later spread fairly modern as the cosmos or the universe).

Have you ever been to Nazca, Pájaro? I would love to visit sometime. I've been fascinated by them for years. - peregrinamaria, Jul 1, 2010
Yes, I viewed the Nazca Lines from the air in a small, 2 passenger aircraft on my first trip to Peru. We even had the opportunity to meet with the German woman who had been studying them most of her life. Fascinating stuff! - Pajaro44, Jul 1, 2010
Maria Reiche? What a wonderful opportunity! You've picked one of my favourite images too. :) - peregrinamaria, Jul 1, 2010
