When would you use the word Puse and pongo. Is there a difference

Hi Bernice. Welcome to the forum.

If you go to the "More" tab at the top of this page you'll see the "Conjugation" tab. Enter the word "poner" and you'll see that "pongo" is the first person present tense and that "puse" is the first person preterit.

Is your confusion arising from the English conjugation of to put? In English, the present and past tense of the verb are the same (save 3rd person). In Spanish, they are not.
