Couldn't resist posting a picture of a ""standpipe" it was to be a "later" clue.

The dog-legs of the standpipe fit into the hydrant as in the diagram above.

In New South Wales most of our hydrants are underground, accessed through the hydrant lid - my "MO".

To "ship a standpipe" is the expression used to connect the two :o

When you open the hydrant lid to ship the standpipe the first thing you've got to do is check for snakes - it's true!
