I have to take an oral exam where I have to say something like this:

I have enjoyed having Juan in my class this year. I have noticed he has improved a lot on his letters and sounds. An idea for home support would be to practice with him using flashcards. Thank you so much for contacting me----it shows me that you care about your child's education.

Here's my stab at it:

Yo he disfrutaria mucho tener Juan en mi clase este año. He observado que él haga progresos en sus letras y sonidos. Un idea para trabaja en casa es practicar con las tarjetas de memoría. Gracias para llamar a mí---yo puedo ver que ustedes tienen cuidado del educaccion de su niño.

Thanks mucho mucho!!!!

I would say:

I, too, am not a native speaker and it would be great if a native would check this. - alba3, Jun 11, 2010
I think that "tarjetas de memoria" can be used for "flashcards" but I generally think of that meaning "memory cards" like for video games. - alba3, Jun 11, 2010
tarjeta de memoria, oh yeah, i forgot about that. i work with cell phones and that's what I use to refer to micro SD memory cards. - webdunce, Jun 11, 2010
"Me he dado cuenta..." Perhaps "hijo" rather than "niño"? Nicely done! - tennismom, Jun 11, 2010
para ayudarle en casa...oh, I like that. - webdunce, Jun 11, 2010
Thanks, tennismom, you're right it is "cuenta". I almost put hijo but and changed it back to niño because she said child instead of son. Would either way work? - alba3, Jun 11, 2010
That's what I would use, assuming we're writing to the mom. In English we could say "your child" or "your son," right? - tennismom, Jun 11, 2010
Thank you alba, webdunce and tennismom!!!!! - lesleyhilton, Jun 12, 2010

Here are my suggestions (for what they are worth)...

  1. No subject pronouns
  2. It's memoria...not memoría
  3. I think llamar a mí is better as llamarme
  4. idea is feminine (una idea)
  5. would be can be sería (conditional) or sea (subjunctive)...I am not sure which to use in this case but conditional inexplicably sounded better to me (I could be wrong, though).
  6. flash cards is better as tarjetas de vocabulario (o de ilustrativa, o de mnemotécnica)

With these corrections, it becomes...

CAUTION: I'm not a native Spanish speaker, not even orally fluent. There may be other corrections needed. Some of my suggestions could be wrong.

I am also unsure about "trabaja en casa"...maybe "apoyo en casa"?

Webdunce - you´ve had a go that´s the most important thing - please don´t be so negative about yourself!! If you´re incorrect anywhere someone will come along and do the corrections, then we will all be learning from each other.

Thank you for your kind words. :) It's just he says it's for a test, I didn't want him to misunderstand my abilities. - webdunce, Jun 11, 2010
