It might be strange but I've dreamt about myself talking in English.

In this case daydreaming would turn into a kind of persecution mania ;) - bomberapolaca, Jun 10, 2010

Sometimes I dream that I talk English fluently (because I am a native Arabic) and everybody is congratulating me for being fluent in English and suddenly someone appears and asks me a question and I don't know the answer , then everybody starts laughing at me saying that I don't know anything . lol red face

.So if my dream about English was that bad. I wonder ..How bad could be my dream about Spanish ? grrr shut eye

About 2 weeks ago, I tried to expose myself for a couple of days to as much Spanish as possible by listening only to Spanish songs/music, watching only Spanish movies on DVD, reading Spanish textbooks, and of course, hanging out in SD. Then one morning I woke up dreaming and realized I was talking in Spanish. I do not know if I was using correct grammar, but I was sure I was talking in Spanish. Honestly, it felt eerie because I did not think I could actually do that yet.

I don't think I've so much dreamt about myself speaking a different language but after 6 months in Ecuador living and breathing Spanish as well as studying Spanish grammar for 2-4 hours every night I even started to dream in Spanish - i thought that was pretty kewl smile

Well, I dont' think it's strange. It's rather natural for people who learn any foreign language. It's happened to me as well. When I dream in Spanish, I wake up feeling not so much weird as rather proud of myself. Being a beginner an seeing yourself doing your best and communicating with others in plain, fluent Spanish (or even Spanglish) is something amazing. I am now waiting for it to come true one day wink ("Dream on" by Aerosmith playing in the background tongue rolleye )

We used to reckon that dreaming in Spanish was simply a step in the process. If you spend a week talking nothing but Spanish as I used to quite often, why would you not dream in it?

My own view of the stages is that you:

1) Can't make out what they're talking about 2) Have reasonable ability to translate backwords and forwards in conversation 3) React in Spanish - that is understand someone else's command, comment or question without translating 4) Think in Spanish 5) Dream in Spanish

Somewhere in here I should slot in reading skills but I suspect that these are really a parallel process. I can read comfortably in Portuguese, for instance, but can't speak it comfortably.

Naturally, if you are natively hispanohablante you can change Spanish to English in the above.
