I checked with some other Latin American buddies of mine, and we all seem to use either "referido" or "referencia".

Eg. "Traigo un referido del Dr. Zhivago"

"Vengo con referencia del Dr 'Strangelove"

recomendación - recomendado

referir - Dirigir, encaminar algo a un determinado fin.
