I'd say:

"Hola. ¿está Jose?" = Is Jose there?

¿Podría hablar con Jose?" = Could I speak to Jose?

= Hello,could I speak with/to Amy*, please?

( put your friend's* name here instead)

o ¿Dígame, eres Amy ? = Hello, is that Amy?

You can also say ¡ Díga ! instead of Dígame
