Veo palabras como "sos" cuando leo o escucho obras argentinas.

Que significa "sos"? Son verbos como "sos" como "sois" en España? o una palabra diferente y exclusiva de Argentina?

There is an article by Benz on SpanishDict regarding the use of "Vos," which also discusses "sos" for a bit.

You may also be interested in Benz's article on Argentinian slang.

How funny the language can be! That slang seemed like the slang in English; maybe Argentinean Spanish may be easier to tackle than I thought. Thanks for directing me to those! - maddiekinzzz, Jun 7, 2010

Good question:

Sos is from Ser. It is from the second person familiar 'Vos' which is used instead of Tú in much of Latin America.

Vos sos un buen amigo.

You will especially see its command form in ads, like a Coke add that says:

Destapá y disfrutá.

Conjugating verbs with Sos is very simple and I won't get into detail here especially as there is some regional variation. Wikipedia has a good article under 'Voseo'.

Usually it just involves adding an accent on the tú form, por ejemplo, vos comés. In the past and any other tense or mood I believe but am not certain it conjugates as tú.

I'm Puerto Rican and have never heard it around my house. I was pretty intimidated by it, but I love my Argentinian books and such. Thank you so much! - maddiekinzzz, Jun 7, 2010
