The verb reunirse

The verb reunirse

Reunirse meets "to meet someone" or "to gather" according to the dictionary. In english, the word reunite would only be used if the objects of the verb had met previously - the definition in english is probably something like "to meet someone again". Is this the case with the verb reunirse as well, or can reunirse be used for first-time meetings?

Thanks

I probably shouldn't be answering this (no expert here!) but this looks like a case of amigos falsos. It looks like reunite and has reunite as one of its multiple meanings but is definitely used for first-time meetings. If you want to stress reunite you might use volver a reunirse.
