What about telling lies?

Aunque muchos atienden a un mandato para ellos divino de "No mentirás" creo que mentir no está bien cuando lo haces con intención de dañar, engañar o traicionar, sin embargo hay ocasiones que ameritan decir mentiras para no provocar mayor dolor, angustia o preocupación a una persona inocente. También cuando alguien quiere atentar contra tu integridad personal.

¿Qué opinas?

While many serve the Divine mandate *'Do not lie'. I do not think that lying is okay when you do it with intent to injure, deceive or betray. However, there are occasions that warrant telling lies in order to prevent more pain, distress or concern to an innocent person. Also, when someone wants to undermine your integrity.

What do you think?

I understand your reasons for occasionally lying. However, I have found it better to not lie at all. Sometimes it is easier to say nothing at all, rather than lying to prevent someone from being hurt. If someone asks a direct question like

"Do you like what I'm wearing?"

you can always find something positive to say like "I really like the color."

It it is someone very close to you, who depends on your honest opinion, always tell the truth, but be nice while doing it.

As far as someone saying something to undermine my integrity....I say "Let them."

I think it is all right to lie when you want to protect others from getting into trouble. For example, if your Friend A mentioned something not nice to you about your Friend B and later on Friend B asks you if Friend A said something not nice about him, I would normally say "No". Otherwise, as Gekkosan said, you're always better off telling the truth.

Pienso que no hay personas que no mientan. La mentira es una parte de comunicación indispensable y una parte muy importante de nuestra cultura.
