What does "Válgame Dios" mean?

I think it's an imperative, but I have no idea what verb it comes from.

Creo que es un imperativo, pero no tengo una idea de qué verbo.

(and btw can I use the subjunctive in this sentence: "Creo que sea un imperativo"?

Just to clarify... you can say "Creo que sea un imperativo" just depending on your level of certainty! :) - MagRitt14, Feb 20, 2012

Tamalmalamarrado is correct.

And in answer to your first question, "What does "Válgame Dios" mean?" ........ "For God's sake!"

Interestingly enough, I've heard people say "¡Válgame!" as well, which means the same thing. - tamalmalamarrado, Jun 2, 2010

What a great phrase for the phrasebook, Pettirojo, why don't you enter it? I would also translate as 'Oh, my God' or "God help me!'

Válgame = que me valga

So, it comes from the verb valer. Hope that helps.
