For example: "I am going to run," or "We will decorate the yard"?

The easiest way is to use the construction ir a + infinitive.

I am going to run.

Voy a trabajar.

We will decorate the yard.

Vamos a decorar el patio.

For the second example, the true future (will) would be: Decoraremos el patio.

The statement "I am going to ...." - present indicative tense of "ir" (to go) + infinitive

is trams;ated differemtly than

"I will . . . (future tense)

in Spanish.

"I am going to . . ." = " Voy a + infinitive"

For example: "I am going to leave now" = "Voy a salir ahora".

"I will leave now" = Saliré ahora (future tense of salir)
