What connotation does "Eres rica" have?

I said "Eres muy rica" to a female Mexican friend of mine and the native speakers laughed and told me not to say that, but they wouldn't tell me what it meant. Help!

It means you are very sexy.

Yes, but it translates directly as "You're very yummy" or "You are very tasty"! Of course it *can* mean "you are very rich", but Mexicans will allways find the worst possible twist for a word, specially if spoken by a foreigner. - Gekkosan, May 31, 2010
If you wish to say "rich", you are better off saying "tienes mucho dinero!" - but it's not a socially smooth expression anyway. - Gekkosan, May 31, 2010
