Do comments make topics hot again?

Question

Just wondering if someone makes a comment on a topic does it make that topic hot again or show as a recent edit (time wise) so that we know something (even if it's just a comment) has been added.

It seems to me that it doesn't and I was wondering if that might be a possible addition, to save sifting through topics to see if anyone commented or even commented on comments lol

Or is there an easy way to check that I haven't figured out yet? (The most likely option lol)

When they first changed over to the new SpanishDict, which introduced the voting system, a comment would automatically push the topic to the top of the "Hot" page.

However, the result was that new topics were pushed from the "Hot" page way too fast. For example, a post with 5 comments pushed down a new question 5 places, and soon enough it was off the first page altogether with no answers at all.

When we all voted on changes to SpanishDict's new format we chose to have comments not push a topic to the top again.

However, whenever someone leaves a comment the time of edit changes. Specifically, when you leave a comment the time "updated" time at the bottom of the listing changes to when you just made that comment, e.g. "updated 5 seconds ago."

As Webdunce says, if you want to receive notice of answers and comments, you simply check the "watch this question" box (and uncheck it when you no longer want updates).

Check "watch this question" and you will receive emails whenever anyone comments or posts on that thread, if I'm not too mistaken.

When you tire of receiving emails for that thread, uncheck "watch this question." - webdunce, May 28, 2010

Now that's where it get's weird because 'yes' i did get an email notification of your post one of pajaro's comment but I didn't get one for Jason or Webdunce's comments???

Yes, the only way the topic becomes "hot" again is for somebody, me right now, making a brand new comment on the thread. Not a comment on a comment on the thread! (Man, Maria-Claire, that is funny and a tongue twister). Hope that helps!!
