Your question is too vague. "to" and "from" are both prepositions and, by far, the most difficult area of English grammar/usage revolves around prepositions. There are scores (I'd like to say 'hundreds' but I'm afraid you'd ask for a hundred examples) of expressions that involve these prepositions and, in large part, they are idiomatic. If you ask "Why do you use preposition X in this sentence and preposition Y in that?" the probable answer will be "Because we do!"
