Reputation measures your contributions to the SpanishDict community. The more high quality questions and answers you offer—as voted on by other members of the community—the more Reputation you will receive. You can earn up to 200 Reputation per day. As your Reputation increases, you will earn the right to participate in the site in more ways. Here is how it works:

Are chosen as the best answer by someone else - 20 reputation

Submit a phrasebook entry that is published - 20 reputation

Are voted up on a question or answer - 10 reputation

Vote for someone else's question or answer - 1 reputation

Get flagged - lose 10 reputation

Earning Reputation will unlock the following privileges:

The right to send private messages - 10 reputation

The right to vote on questions and answers - 15 reputation

The right to submit phrasebook entries - 30 reputation

The right to flag questions and answers - 100 reputation

The right to edit questions and answers - 2000 reputation

Reduced advertising throughout the site - 4000 reputation

The right to create and edit reference articles - 5000 reputation

The same thing has happened to me. I discovered that in any 24 hour period of time, each member is only allowed to acquire 200 points. So, once you have reached your 200 points in a 24 hour period of time, you will no longer get points until you are beyond the 24 hour period of time. I hope that this makes sense to you--I'm not sure I've explained it very well.

Here is an example. If Í have earned 190 points in the last 23 hours and someone votes on my answer as a best answer, I should receive 20 points for that vote. However, since I have 190 points now and the limit is 200, I will only receive 10 points. Any additional votes I would get would be 0 (zero) until I once again dropped down below 200 points in the last 24 hours.

This link shows the 10/day limit on points earned by voting up others. That's the salient point not mentioned by the other replies. - 0074b507, May 24, 2010
