Starting a new line in a post
Is it just me, or do everybody's posts come out as one long paragraph?
I've checked the list of formatting tips and it doesn't say anything about a line break. Sometimes if I press 'enter' in a magical way, I get a new line. Other times, not so magical.
Should I just use the < br > symbol? Hmm... I guess so, because I just looked down at the preview of this post and I saw that it worked.
I just answered my own question!
In summary, I've learned two new things on this site this week: 1) The little green check marks near a question means the questioner has chosen a 'best answer'. 2) If you want to start a new line in a post use < br > (without the spaces).
Life is going to be so much easier from now on!

No, they do not come out as one paragraph. Notice that yours did not either.
Text in this editor is placed within paragraph tags < p > < / p >. This acts differently than word processors that use < LF > line feed tags.
When you hit Enter twice the end < /p > tag is inserted. If you are familiar with HTML you know that this ends the line and inserts a blank line before beginning a new paragraph.
If you want to really see how this works open your thread with Internet Explorer and go to View on the Menu bar, then Page Source or under Page; View Source on toolbars. You will see the XML and HTML codings. Scroll down to the comment line (in green) that says "Post Body". You see your text within paragraph tags.
As you noticed, what you see when you look at the Preview screen is not WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). The Preview screen may show HTML tags like < br > working as you would expect them to, but when the message is posted the CSS stylesheets take over in XML and the display may or may not look like the preview screen.
Okay. I'm trying it. That's enter once
That's enter twice.
