Said in a Star trek episode. I'm afraid I can't help you. So can temer be used like this figuratively? It would seem so. Gracias. (maybe they said pueda I don't know)

Yes, me temo que is I am afraid that....
In the dictionary they use "temer" figuratively also:
Me temo que no vendrá = I'm afraid she won't come
Isn't it soooooooooo nice when the Spanish saying matches up with the English saying?
