HI everyboody, I am new here and I would like to know: do you have a friend you can really trust? Do you think he/she would not go behind your back? Cheat on you? Not be by your side?

Welcome to SpanishDict.

I am also new here, I found SD about 5 weeks ago.

One of the things I see most often are the other members constantly remind us new members that this is not a texting site and request that we use proper English because many of the Spanish participants are trying to learn English from us. I include you when I say us because you do have a great handle on English even if you are not paying attention to the grammar rules.

I also learned that many people assume, when a question comes in English, that English is your native language and answers may not always make sense.

Sometimes, when a question is not understood, the viewer will click on the member and read the profile. It would be to your benefit to edit your profile to reflect your native language and maybe to 'clean up' some of the 'texting' shorthand.

I see that you are asking and answering questions, doing the lessons, and already creating flashcard sets! When you take over here at SpanishDict, please remember I was only trying to be helpful.

Very nice. :) - Nicole-B, May 22, 2010
Did you also remove the 'flag' or was that done by someone else? - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010
corrected typo - 0074b507, May 22, 2010
Where was my typo, Mr. Q? I really wanted it to say 'reflect" where it now says "select" - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010
sorry, but you wrote relect...I'll change it to reflect (makes more sense). Also changed spelling of grammar. - 0074b507, May 22, 2010
You are too good to me. I thank you, kind sir! - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010

What is something that starts with “F” and ends with “uck”

Our experiences in life and the knowledge we accumulate directly influences how we perceive things.

Before anyone flags this post as obscene; keep in mind that your perception does not equal mine.

The something I am referring to is a “Fire truck”

Huh? Why would somebody flag a fire truck? - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010
It has a better effect if you do not know the answer, ask the question at a church social. - 00a52084, May 22, 2010
DonVon, you made a very valid point. Sorry, I just couldn't resist. I also liked your question about friendliest country. Thanks for letting me play and learn. - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010

Hi, I'm very new here– I just signed up today, although I've been using the translation tools for a pretty long time. It really is hard to find friends that you know you can trust, but once you do you'll never forget them. I have one friend who I can trust no matter what, and I don't know what I'd do without her.

Well this has nothing to do with the trust issue but rather the photo itself. Never judge appearances; this could very well be a grieving father(middle),daughter and son reflecting on a moment.

Very plausable explantion, or even a grieving daughter ... Good call! - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010
Very nice explanation. - 0074b507, May 22, 2010

Cute picture. Cute caption. But I thought that was acceptable behavior in some cultures.

Some matriarchal cultures maybe. Most polygamist cultures allow a man to marry several women. Don't start giving them ideas. - 0074b507, May 22, 2010
Noooo! I just meant friends. Young friends, at that. - LateToDinner, May 22, 2010
The two holding hands could also be “los hermanos” - 00a52084, May 22, 2010

"Nunca jamás confie en un amigo"?

In the US I would agree with your comment about the photo. However, from my experience with other cultures I can not agree.

Pertaining directly to the photo, I was walking with some friends in Costa Rica and one of them, “una chica bonita", takes my hand. Being married and feeling a little uncomfortable, I asked her about it and she said “es normal que los amigos”. Then her boy friend joins the group and there we are walking; his arm around her and her hand in mine. No problems, because of the culture.

And no my wife was not there if she was I would have had “una mujer guapa" holding my hand. It took some time for my wife and me to acclimate to the closeness of the culture in CR.

Pertaining to your question about friends you can trust. Yes I have a few friends I trust completely and they earn that trust. My wife is at the top of that list. All of the friends I have I trust, some more than others; I only offer my friendship freely, my trust must be earned. I also have no friendship to offer anyone that has earned my distrust. Life is too short to waste my time with them.

Do not ask for anything you are not willing to give.
