Hi,

In the following sentence should I be using the Pretérito or the Imperfecto form of the verb taclear:

En el fútbol americano, tacleé a los muchachos muchos más grandes que yo.

or

En el fútbol americano, tacleaba a los muchachos muchos más grandes que yo.

Thanks!

Since i assume you're talking about something "habitual" since it is in the nature of the game, you would use the imperfecto. preterite is for specific instances.

En el futbol americano, tacleaba a los muchachos muchos mas grandes que yo.

The imperfect tense is used mainly to describe past habitual actions or to set the scene in the past.

So if you tackled people much larger than yourself weekly, daily, often, frequently, etc, then I would use the imperfect.

If you are describing one event, then I would use the preterit.

Hope that helps
