Do you maybe mean 'por' and 'para'? If not, the answers given before me answer your question quite nicely.

But, for clarification, 'por' is used to indicate a duration of time, frequency, movement through a place, and a causes or reasons. It also shows 'on behalf of ', for example, the author of a book would say 'por nombre'. 'Para' shows movement to a goal and indicates movement to a goal, specific times, purposes or goals, and comparisons. It also shows opinion. Though they have the same sort of meaning, the times they are used are different, which is what seperates them from each other.

I think per can be used much as we use it in English:

per cápita - per capita

As well as a fruit pera can be used in "ser la pera" to be the limit.

Hi, carmichael

The word "per" doesn´t exists in spanish "pera" is a fruit (most used)

Per is used like prefix too:

(Del lat. per, a través de). from latin per: throughout

Denota intensidad o totalidad: Pertinaz, pervivir, perfecto. A veces significa 'mal': Perjurar, pervertir.
