Why do we not say it like POSAY? and why is the S pronounced like a Z? Thanks for clearing my confusion!

the spanishdict.com dictionary says to pronounce like this POZ. The song by Daddy Yankee makes it sound like poshuh or posuh. Still not sure why we do not say the E at the end. - pkadams, May 17, 2010

What you hear for the Spanish ´pose´is the pronunciation of the English ´pose´. The system is simply confusing the two words because they are homographs.

why is the S pronounced like a Z?

The Spanish "z" is pronounced differently in Spain than in Latin America.

In Spain, it is pronounced like the "th" in the English word "think." In Latin America, it is pronounced like the letter "s".

Thank you Marianne, but the word has an S,not a Z, yet the sound is like a Z. So do we pronounce an S-E like a Z and not say the usual E (ay) sound? sorry to be a pest! - pkadams, May 17, 2010
