How do you say "were given"

Question

I cant remember how to say this in spanish? Any help would be great. I would be using it in a sentence like:

Para el cuartocientos aniversario del libro, copias gratutias "were given" a la gente de muchos países.

dado = given ---> (plural, feminine) dadas

"fueron dadas"
