People around here (SoCal) also use la nevera. It's kind of like using the word icebox in English.

The most common one is "refrigerador". Some of us call it "el refri".

You can shorten it and say "refri" and most people will know what you're talking about. I find it to be the easiest and closest way to saying "fridge."

We can say refrigerator or fridge. "Nevera" is the most common word used in the Spanish language.

In the textbook we use in my Spanish class, the word for it is "frigorifico". The book was published in Spain. However, my teacher, who lived in Spain for a few years some time ago uses the word "nevera" in class and according to her it's the more commonly used term for it.

Besides "nevera" which KevinB has already stated they also use "frigorífico" in Spain.

Wow, I've never heard that one. - Goyo, May 15, 2010
Yeah...I think its often abbreviated to something like "frigi" (I can't remember exactly). Heidita used it (the abbreviation) once and I asked her about...that's how I first found out about it. - Izanoni1, May 15, 2010

When I was growing up we also called it "la hielera". Could be slang, but I do remember calling that.
