Yo/tu or me/te?

Yo/tu or me/te?

Empiezo aprender Espanol y estoy confundido acerca de usos de yo/tu o me/te. Puedes cualquier persona ayudar? Por ejemplo, por que 'te amo' y no 'amo tu'?

(Feel free to correct the grammar of the question too...).

Gracias

¡Bienvenidos al foro!

Hi! My understanding is that Spanish puts a little more emphasis on who is receiving the action.

In this case, "you" is the recipient of the action, so "te" (as the direct object pronoun) precedes the verb and the verb is conjugated according to who is performing the action.

"Te amo" (Loose translation of "I have love for you". Not that "have" is there, but to show "you" as the indirect object)

"Me gusta" (It is pleasing to me)

I still confuse direct/indirect objects at times. I originally had said "direct object", but I believe that the recipient acts as the indirect object in these phrases. Is that correct? (Question to more advanced users) - danrivera, May 15, 2010
Nope. They're direct objects in your sentences. - samdie, May 15, 2010
