Hi rob:

Creo que estás equivocada, pero es tu decisión, no la mía. Siempre me tendrás a tu disposición.

I wonder why the "la" and "el" is required when using mia and mio?

Possessive pronouns are similar to the possessive adjectives, but they are normally used with the definite article. Here's the lesson on that.

mine
el mío / la mía
los míos / las mías

yours (familiar)
el tuyo / la tuya
los tuyos / las tuyas

yours (formal), his, hers
el suyo / la suya
los suyos / las suyas

ours
el nuestro / la nuestra
los nuestros / las nuestras

yours (familiar)
el vuestro / la vuestra
los vuestros / las vuestras

yours (formal), theirs
el suyo / la suya
los suyos / las suyas

= Creo que tienes una opinión equivocada de mi, pero es tu decisión hacer y no mía. Siempre sabrás donde puedes encontrarme" (o donde estoy)

If Rob is a male, why do we use la mia here and not el mio? I wonder why the "la" and "el" are required when using mia and mio?

"No la mía" refers back to the feminine noun "decisión." - --Mariana--, May 14, 2010
I don't know why you need the "la" but it sure does sound right. - bmancornelious, May 14, 2010
no mark, he is writing to a lady, so equvocada is feminine, - 00494d19, May 14, 2010
hmm....I dont understand, the man is saying "not his decision" ie "not mine"....If the answer is feminine then this is a good example to illustrate posessive pronouns - Mark-Baker, May 14, 2010
