Is chorizo a sausage?

I know this strange but a guy told me chorizo isnt sausage, I know that hot dogs are salchichas, but im confused

They are raw or fresh chorizos, and some cured chorizos. The ones I know are Chorizo colorado (cured) and chorizo blanco o parrillero (raw). The chorizo blanco is used in one of the most famous regional meals in Argentina: the Asado. And it´s sold in the streets as a sandwich (as the hot dogs). It´s called "choripán". I think it´s made with different kinds of meat (it can be pork or beef, or both) and a lot of spice.

Chorizo often comes sausage-shaped, but it is a cured meat - ie it is not cooked. It's cured with wine and garlic, sometimes chilli is added. Its colour comes from paprika I believe. In Spanish food it's often used to add flavour to bean stews etc.

I tasted my first Chorizo this week a Spanish one, it is not a sausage or anything resembling one , it is an item of food designed to inflict pain and ultimately destroy as many taste buds as possible , it colors every thing it comes into contact with and ruined a white shirt . But oh boy it does taste sooo good i cant wait to buy another one ,although I may have to take out a second - mortgage to pay for them.

Chorizo is indeed a sausage and it comes with different degrees of spicy (hot). In America all I found was some kind of fresh sausage they call chorizo, of course nothing to do with the real thing. Back when I was in France I would eat Spanish chorizo black string (and that is a dry sausage) , the hottest....OMG that was soooo good. Also it is used in the Spanish dish paella.

Looks like a sausage, smells like a sausage, tastes like a sausage, you don't want to know what's in it. Chorizo sí es un tipo de salchicha.

But there are other uses of the word, ''chorizo''. What did this person think chorizo was?

Chorizo es muy bueno. I make this in my butcher shop. It has a nice spice to it. I make it fresh and smoked, both are good.

In the Phils., we only have chorizo de Bilbao. It's packed in lard and with very strong flavor. Lately there's also a Chinese chorizo here. Haven't tried it though. - Rikko, May 14, 2010

According to my spanish textbook salchicha is sausage. I just saw in one of the Spanish videos (on this site) that it also can mean hot dog.
