"It took..."

"It took..."

Hola! Como se dice "It took two hours to get there" o "It takes me an hour to get there", etc.?

Podría decir "Dura 2 horas para llegar allí' o "me tarde 2 horas para ir allí"?

Gracias!

Hi Barhamo

I would use "tardar".

Se tarda una hora en llegar - It takes an hour to get there.

Una carta tarda cuatro días en llegar allá - A letter takes four days to get there

Sólo tardo cinco minutos - It will only take me five minutes

So for your examples I would say,

It took two hours to get there - Se tardó dos horas en llegar allá

It takes me an hour to get there - Me tarda una hora en llegar allá

Tardar is a good word in this case, but there are lot of synonymous in spanish: invertir, gastar, emplear, demorar, dilatar, retrasar, aplazar, detenerse, retardarse, you can take a look to context of phrase - paragraph etc and define.

Pimsleur says the correct word to use in this instance is "tomar". I am surprised to see Heidita post that "tardar" is the only correct word to use here. I can not imagine all those people paying a thousand dollars for something that is wrong. "Toma mucho tiempo" = it takes a long time. Google results for "toma mucho tiempo" = 2 million.

Prefiero los videos cortos para que no tome mucho tiempo en bajarse. I like short videos because it doesn't take much time to download them.
