What's so great about this language?
Why students take this when most hate this language? No offence.

Welcome to the forum!
In spite of your claim that "most students hate this language", which has not been true in my observation of something like 5000 students, it's a great language to know. The United States is the 5th largest Spanish speaking nation in the world, and it's not even technically a Spanish speaking country!
There are almost 2 dozen countries that speak Spanish...that's a lot of people, and a lot of potential friends for you!
Are you planning on working or changing jobs at some point? Speaking Spanish is a valuable skill; in fact, it's almost as important as skills in technology these days.
Why don't you try a positive mental approach and see if you can turn that grumpy post into something a little more realistic?
Maybe they just want to learn something like, maybe, proper grammar.
Not everything is so great about Spanish but to say people hate it is bit over the top.
Learning any language will enrich your life and help you make interesting friends.
I don't know where you are from and why you wrote what you did.
Give it a go you might enjoy the experience even if you never become fluent.
There is just no way to know how another language can enrich your life unless you experience it yourself. I have friends that I would never have met if I hadn't taken on this endeavor of learning Spanish. I have experienced new cultural experiences and the warmth of the hearts of Hispanic people.
I have found a few rednecks that hated Spanish, I'm kind of doubting the "most students" hate Spanish ![]()
HI ypy, nice question actually. I don't think you are right.
But let's think you are right
-well, it is in any case a good choice, there are more than 400 millon people who speak the language so you will be able to communicate with a loooot of people. The language is almost spoken as it is written, another point in its favour.
Anyway, you might want to change your attitude, as you can see you have been welcomed to the site in spite of trying to be rude, may be you were not.
So, let's start all over, shall we?

If you hate spanish, don't learn it! Try a different language, English perhaps. Maybe a refresher course in good manners.
Me, I had to learn Spanish because that's what my momma spoke and that's what she taught me. Having learned other languages by choice later on, I find it's actually a pretty good language.
Then again, I prefer to make friends, rather than enemies, and learn about other cultures, instead of denigrating and insulting them. It's amazing the nifty things you can get from life if you make the effort to learn!
But if you are the kind of person who likes to pick fights and argue with people - why, you should love Spanish! There are some wonderful curse words and insults in Spanish that simply have no match in English! ![]()
personally, I love learning spanish and I know a LOT of other students who do too!
it is the #2 spoken language in the world behind mandarin- english is 3rd
it is extremely useful when looking for a job
if you are ever traveling through central and south america, people will speak spanish, also in europe, especially western europe, there is a very good chance that you will find someone who will speak spanish even in countries besides spain
it is becoming increasingly common in the US
it sounds corny, but you will open many doors by learning spanish- colleges like to see that you have taken a language as well as employers- since spanish is such a common language, it does look very good to put it on your resume
if you give spanish a chance and put some work into it, im sure you will enjoy learning this language
On a personal note, i have 2 pen pals in spain now and it is rewarding knowing that I understand spanish enough to communicate with any given native speaker- it is also very fun getting to know new people
- deseo que aprendas esta idioma de buena gana y que tengas mucho exito!
I got interested in Spanish because of this site and many others like, Great Spanish Help
There are some great things about the Spanish language that if you really look around, you will see for yourself!
Every 30 out of 100 people speak Spanish, studies say.
Students from all over the world learn Spanish.
There is even a 71yr old lady on this site learning Spanish....even at her elder age. (Not offensive comment)
That is just a example of how someone wants to learn!
Plus, like Gekkosan said, there are wonderful curse words
If you don't want to learn Spanish, that is on you!
We are not forcing you to learn anything!
(but uhm, maybe if you don't mind going to English management or learn to be respectful to others school)
American education or lack of it thereof! Poor kids are among those that spend the least time in school (up to college). They are taught by teachers (some SOME) that either don't care or should go back to school and restart from scratch. Could a British confirm or deny that in the U.K. kids go to school 8 hours a day (plus Saturday morning in France) and that corporal punishment is still applied? Lesson 1. America is the greatest country in the world, we are the belly button of the universe, without us the globe would stop spinning. Recent news (couple months old maybe: A school board in Florida fires ALL teachers for lack of results jaja. News (this week): A grandmother spends a night in jail for slapping her granddaughter (18 yo) that refused to do her homework and told her "f you." Why should I learn? You can't make me jaja. If you touch me my parents will sue the school. If you don't give me a high grade my brother will beat you to death or even kill you. Some of you are great teachers and great students that are slowed down by the garbage we have to endure because of inappropriate legislations. Ypy, please understand that you don't have to learn Spanish, nor English, mathematics, history, geography, hell you don't even have to learn to spell your name if you don't want to. And don't worry about your future, Mac Donald and Kentucky Fried Chicken will always hire
Do we need an English to English translation?
"most students hate this language" = "I and a lot of my mates resent being forced to learn this or any other language or skill"
If this is over the top, I apologize, but before you take out a contract on me, please stop and think it through.
I loved learning Spanish in school. I think many students in the United States are turned off to learning Spanish because they feel like they are being 'forced' to learn the language to accommodate for immigrants who haven't yet learned English, but that isn't the case at all! Learning Spanish should be a fun adventure in seeing how others communicate and being able to communicate with others that you wouldn't have been able to otherwise, or experience different forms of media in their original form.
One thing bothers me about the shortness of our lives. As I grow older I realize I will never have time to learn all I wanted to learn. That is why I give it my best shot every day. I learned making and playing didgeridoo (aborigene instrument from Australia), I learn guitar, I learn Spanish...I will die rich of knowledge, what a waste LOL.
In my country we don't have Spanish in any school, and to find a job here, some other languages are more wanted, like German and Italian, but many people here learn Spanish because of the beauty of that language. It's all individual, all languages are pretty, but it depend of a different taste will some person like, or won't like some language.
Hint: Try listening to some hispanic music, some good old love songs...
I know the emotions will get to you and you will end up wanting badly to understand the lyrics, and this will be the begining of a big love between Spanish and you...so you will keep on coming to this wonderful web site...and we will all be here for you... ![]()
