Is "el ratón" for both mouse and rat?
Growing up on a farm I had experience with both mice and rats.
The field mice were tiny little things, only a few centimeters long, kind of cute.
The rats were huge. Our dog was chasing one once, and it turned and lunged at his throat. After that he didn't chase rats any more.
So to me the difference between a mouse and a rat is significant, but in Spanish I only find one word for both, "el ratón".
So is there a way of distinguishing the two in Spanish?

Rat would be "La Rata" and mouse would be "El Ratón."
I know El Ratón to be the correct for both, but maybe not...
