changing a verb to present irregular
luis preferir vivir en n.y.

Are you asking about stem changing a present tense verb? That is something "irregular". For preferir, the 2nd "e" must change to "ie" for all forms but "nosotros" in the present tense.
But you won't find a tense called "present irregular".
Irregular refers to verbs that are not conjugated like the majority of their type, classified by ending.
Present refers to the tense and you will find "Present Indicative", "Present Continuous" and "Present Subjunctive". If this fails to correspond exactly with the tool Marianne quotes, don't blame me; I gave up learning grammar around 55 years ago.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
We have a conjugation tool here at SpanishDict, which is located under the "More" tab at the top of this screen.
