Irse when you are leaving a place like you are in one room and you say you are going to the bathroom: Me voy al baño is correct but you would not use irse to say that you went to Equador you would say as in your example: Fui a Ecuador in other words you would not say Me fui a Ecuador.

El verbo "ir" significa "to go" (a un lugar o en general) mientras "irse" significa precisamente "salir de". Los dos no significa lo mismo y "irse" no se puede intercambiar por "ir" en general.

The verb "ir" means "to go" (to a place or in general), meanwhile "irse" specifically means "to leave from". The two do not mean the same and "irse" can not be interchanged with "ir" usually.

Hola Chunga. Welcome to the forum.

If you will put ir vs. irse in the search box at the top, it will take you to some posts where this has been discussed. I'd put the link here for you, but I'm afraid that I'm not too good with computer "stuff." Sorry. smile
