Surely it's "fuimos a despedirlo a la estacion" - not "le" as suggested by your dictionary

Yes, thanks gfreed.. that's quite right. I was referring to an entry in the SpanishDict dictionary section. The dictionary says DESPEDIR is transitive (correct so far), but then goes on to give "despedirle" as an example of it's use, which does not seem terribly logical to me. I don't want to enter a debate about "leísmo", as I'm not knowledgeable enough, but I do feel a dictionary should give the most grammatically correct examples, unless it specifically indicates that the usage in a given example is colloquial, regional or a generally accepted variant. By comparison, the Collins (as seen on the Reverso site) gives the example of "fuimos a despedirlo a la estación", which seems more consistent to me (even if le might be acceptable in leísta regions of Spain, etc).

Mayobe you should use another sentence... Verbs Terminated in la lo le in spanish are incorrect

Maybe "fuimos a despedir a ... a la estación" or "despedimos a ... en la estación".

you can´t find in dictionaries despedirlo o despedirle
