hoy (en) dia, why the en?

hoy (en) dia, why the en?

En nuestros días, en nuestros tiempos, hoy día.

This sentence is in the dictionary and they did not use hoy en dia but they used en everywhere else. I see lots of things in ( ) but it gets confusing when you can't see what the thing in the parenthesis is used for. I am looking for nowadays.

HI fox, the use ir regional. If you see () it indicates that in some places you use en in others you don¡t.

hoy en día is correct like hoy día ...are same significant in spanish

in our days = en nuestros días in our time = en nuestro tiempo
