Foreign languages at online colleges

I'm wanting to start college in the fall and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about online colleges and if any offered classes that dealt with becoming a Spanish Translator or if there are any other places I could go to get involved in that field. I'm very grateful for any help!!

You can take Spanish online, but if you want to become a translator, I would suggest classroom time. I taught myself with books and online in order to test out of it for my degree and as a result, I missed out on actual speaking. I can read and write (not very well) but my actual speech is pretty much non existent. I am trying to work on this, dating someone who speaks both languages, but English is his first language, too. I think a full immersion is needed in order to become fluent. Just my opinion. Buenos suerte! (Good luck)

In your chosen field of study, correct language usage and spelling are essential. Hence:

Either Heidita or Benz should be able to offer you suggestions, as they are both translators.

There is a good one at Cardiff University. It's all distance learning and prepares you for the IoL (Institute of Linguists) exam.

High Level Translation course Spanish to English via Distance Learning

I know grammar and spelling are very important, but I am on my phone and the keyboard is rather tiny. I have to proof read things many times before posting if I don't want any errors in my posts. I was just being lazy and didn't feel like doing it to be honest.

My husband is from Mexico, and we spend as much time as we can teaching each other our native tounges (mine being English and his being Spanish of course). I wouldn't mind spending time in the classroom, but at the moment I'm not able to do that due to my job. Other than actual college, is there any kind of classes I could take to become fluent in Spanish?

A community college class might be a good idea. They should be cheap and I would expect that they have some that are scheduled to fit around people's work schedules. - MacFadden, May 8, 2010
You have somebody to converse with! That's a different story. You probably could do online college at the junior college like MacFadden suggested. Not too expensive either. - chica_rica, May 8, 2010
