I guess (stress "guess") that the answer is use a dictionary and if the results look strange, check the inverse (that is, if you start with English/Spanish now try your Spanish results in Spanish/English). Also check that, for a verb, you're looking for the right part of the verb - difficult if you aren't grammar wise or grammar oriented.
