How do you say.....

I am trying to say "My grandmother had diabetes" or "My grandmother was sick with diabetes."
I translated it to "Mi abuela tuvo diabetes." and "Mi abuela es enfirma con diabetes." Niether sounds right. Can anyone help me with the correct translation'''''?

and the second

my grandmother was sick with diabetes --> Mi abuela estuvo enferma de diabetes.
