Because there's a bug in the site's programming somewhere.
I get over it (as suggested by some kind person a little while ago) by clicking on the questioner's profile and linking to the question from there.

Are you using Internet Explorer?
IE has a lot of problems on this site, and it's only when I use IE that I get threads in small print and cannot access them by clicking on them.
