An accent mark can change the whole meaning of a sentence, be careful when you use them, this is an example:

Option 1 --me siento devastado por la pérdida de mi esposa -- I am devastated because I lost my wife

Option 2 -- me siento devastado por la perdida de mi esposa -- I am devastated because my wife is a whor#!%& (sorry to use that word, but it is a good example)
