Tilde Pronunciation
How do I pronounce the tilde? I was reading the section on accents and stresses but I was wondering whether I just have to pronounce the syllable with the tilde louder? Or by stress am I supposed to strain my mouth for it ? Spanish speakers must be used to it , it gets annoying after trying to intentionally say half a world loudly after half an hour . I'll be saying Cómo with a loud CO and a low mo ? COmo ?

Hi Selwich,
You're not supposed to pronounce a stressed syllable louder than any other. A tilde only marks on which syllable the stress would be when the stress is not on the syllable on which you would expect it to be. If I remember correctly, the "normal" syllable to stress is the second to last one.
Applied to English, the stress should be just as much as when you say "water", in which there is more stress on WA then on TER. So "Cómo" is pronounced with the same amount of stress you would use on WAter, only in English there is no need to use an accent. "Stress" is more of a change in intonation (higher pitch of voice) then change of loudness.
Hope this helps!
